Born 1946, Maidstone, Kent, U.K. Attended Maidstone College of Art, studied printmaking with David Hockney, graduated with BFA. Attended Royal College of Art and studied painting with Francis Bacon, and Lucien Freud graduated with a MFA in painting. Joined a punk band as a vocalist, managed a farm in Dorset, then moved to Los Angeles in 1979, and ordained as a Zen monk in 1981. I started teaching at Idyllwild Arts in 1998, and I have taught all levels of painting and drawing, sculpture, architecture, art history and managed the gallery for 4 years. I was Chair of the VA department from 2016-2020. I have an abiding interest in the theory and practice of holistic education, and co-authured a book on the subject using anecdotes from my teaching at IA. I live with my beautiful wife, Jennifer in Idyllwild. I have four wonderful children, May, Adam, Vesper and Jovielle, and four incredible grandchildren.
